Open Question: Am I just screwed as far as care goes? I have Borderline PD? I need QUALITY CARE!?

Am I just screwed as far as care goes? I have BPD Off the charts. I live with my mom & she is in bankruptcy. I cannot work so I have no job nor health ins. I want to go to a NON county/state hospital to get REAL quality care for my BPD. My mom has sent letters to hospitals in ALL these states I want to go to because I HATE Texas. There has to be BPD treatment facilities up north in places like CO, OR, North CA, WA, MA, NY, VA, PA or somewhere where it's not 500 degrees in the summer time like Houston TX. The responses my mom has gotten is "go to your county mental health services". I have already done that. It's a JOKE! I don't want to go to Ben Taub & that's FINAL. Why are all the JERKS telling me I have no hope. Why can't another hospital in another state that has a CARING staff unlike crappy county hospitals with loon buckets. How can I get into a PRIVATE hospital in another state to get PROPER treatment for my BPD. Screw therapy. I want to go to a decent HOSPITAL with caring staff members and NOT a state or county dump hole with uncaring staff members. more

Resolved Question: Can you buy "trackers" to stick on people and track their location?

Sorry but my mom and I have great reason to believe my dad is up to something, I mean, large sums of money disappearing, he finds any excuse he can to leave the house, escort numbers and services on his computer, etc. We can't afford a detective due to filing bankruptcy, but we think a "tracker" we could just tack on him would be easier and cost efficient. more

Resolved Question: JOE LEGAL VS JOE ILLEGAL?????

This is one major reason California is on the brink of bankruptcy! WHAT AN EYE OPENER!!! Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal Here is an example of why hiring illegal aliens is not economically productive for the State of California ... You have 2 families..."Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have 2 parents, 2 children and live in California. "Joe Legal" works in construction, has a Social Security Number, and makes $25.00 per hour with payroll taxes deducted...."Jose Illegal" also works in construction, has "NO" Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table". Joe Legal...$25.00 per hour x 40 hours $1000.00 per week, $52,000 per year Now take 30% away for state and federal tax. Joe Legal now has $31,231.00 Jose Illegal...$15.00 per hour x 40 hours $600.00 per week, $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes... Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00 Joe Legal pays Medical and Dental Insurance with limited coverage $1000.00 per month $12,000.00 per year Joe Legal now has $19,231.00 Jose Illegal has full Medical and Dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00 Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for Food Stamps or welfare Joe Legal pays for food $1,000.00 per month $12,000.00 per year Joe Legal now has $ 7,231.00 Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for Food Stamps and Welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200..00 Joe Legal pays rent of $1,000..00 per month $12,000.00 per year Joe Legal is now in the hole minus (-) $4,769.00 Jose Illegal receives a $500 per month Federal rent subsidy Jose Illegal pays rent $500.00 per month $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $25,200.00 Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work to break even. Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family. Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home. Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same Police and Fire Services. Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay. Why would you support any politician that supports illegal aliens? Its PAST time to take a stand for America and Americans and vote these people out regardless of their part affiliation!Anyone who decides to enter here illegally are already breaking the law and they plan to get whatever they can. They steal documents so they can work, and the employers don't check them out....I have the same feelings about the employers, because you're right, they are a huge part of the problem. I would love to see them fined big time.....I also don't approve of anyone abusing the system that we all pay for, but the illegals here in Ca. cost us over 13 billion dollars, a large part of our financial mess.So many people who don't live among this don't have a clue of what this is all about. They just feel sorry for them and want to help them......Unfortunatly we cannot provide for everyone that wants to live here, especially now. more

Resolved Question: Are Republicans happy with a health care system that leaves 50 million uninsured and millions more bankrupt?

Are you happy having a system that is more of a business than a public service and where profit for shareholders is more important than quality care? Are you satisfied that most personal bankruptcies in America are a result of medical bills? Are you happy that we spend 50% more taxpayer money for this crap system than the rest of the developed world and this is what we get when we let corporations run health care? Are you serious when you say the government would do a worse job than this horrific train wreck? Because if that's the case, then we not only need a new health care system but a whole new system of government as well. No, health care IS a right! And stop quoting that dumbass reagan. more

Resolved Question: Has anyone veiwed their bankruptcy on PACER, or is anyone even aware of this ability?

PACER stands for Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) and is an electronic public access service that allows users to obtain case and docket information from Federal Appellate, District and Bankruptcy courts, and from the U.S. Party/Case Index. Apparently you can View the documents that your attorney filed, and see any flags the courts have imposed, etc. It's about 8 cents a page to download I guess.Has anyone done this? Please provide info/opinion/thoughts? Anything negative about using it?Lawers make mistakes too. People are ultimately responsible for the info in their cases and should be sure that everything that his or her attorney files is 100% accurate and being handled timely are correctly. Pacer allows you to see any flags that go up and t o verify no data entry errors could get you into trouble......I can think of all kinds of reasons why someone should use this....Just wondering why someone wouldn't use it.Lawers make mistakes too. Resolved Question: How can I find out if a business is in the middle of bankruptcy?

I purchased a comforter and shower curtain at a price of $275. I returned it and got a $200 refund. AJMoss of New Hampshire is refusing to give me a further refund because they say they never received the shower curtain, although it was packed in the same box as the bedding and the did receive that. Resolved Question: Can a hospital refuse to treat you if you have an outstanding bill with them?

My husband has been laid off twice in the last year and we are in the process of filing bankruptcy. We had a collection agency take us to court to sue for a hospital bill. I filed an answer to their summons and complaint that I wanted proof. They called me last night & were incredibly rude. Stating that I should be so embarassed & that the hospital put me on a "red list" so that I wouldn't be allowed to recieved services there. Can they really do that? I thought hospitals had to take you if you have an emergency. more

Resolved Question: I know economic times are hard but why are companies cheating their own customers for more money?

Times are hard for businesses but cheating your own customers out of service and money isn't the right answer. It's the customers that keep you in business. Too many people get jipped, robbed, and left cheated will eventually leave you and all the business will shut down for bankruptcy. Don't companies and businesses understand this whole philosophy? It seems more and more companies are trying to cheat me as a customer, I've notice this since the economy has went bad. Have you as well?Well, I'm talking about dishonesty and cheating people of money as a customer. That's not a good enough answer for me. more

Resolved Question: How much should an attorney charge for the service described below?

I have a $6,000 credit card debt that has resulted in wage garnishment that keeps getting renewed. With the legal fees and interest, I have not begun to dent the principle 1 yr and $3,000 later. An attorney I met with stated that while bankruptcy is a possibility, he is also willing to make them an offer on my behalf for around 50% of the debt. I know that his fees + court fees for bankruptcy is $1,300. What is a fair price for him to charge for making the offer on my behalf and all the legwork associated with that? more

Resolved Question: Lawsuit Filed Against Me...Now what?

About a week ago I got a business card from the county Deputy Marshall on my door. I called back and left a message but got no response. A few days after this I started receiving random letters from cracker-jack law firms saying a lawsuit had been filed against me in my county and offering to represent me or help me file chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy. I went to the courthouse and couldn't find anything filed on me there at all so I was confused. Yesterday I got another letter from a lawfirm offering the same services as the others, but it listed a case number. The collection agency(I assume) filed it and miss spelled my last name which is why I could not find anything before. So my question is this. The lawsuit has been filed, but I have not been served yet. Suit was filed on June 1st and it is the 11th but I have not received a notice yet. Can they proceed with anything in court if I haven't been served? I am still trying to research it but the collection agency suing me does not show up anywhere on my credit report I just pulled yesterday and any accounts I had in collections are from back in 2004 and have been charged off. Also if they miss spelled my name on the lawsuit can I get it dismissed and make them re-file it? I'm hoping that I can settle this before it goes to court, but I just don't want them to do something in court w/o me knowing if I haven't been served the official notice of the lawsuit yet.Just some other info. I don't need to file bankruptcy, any debt they would be coming after me for wouldn't be anything more than $500 at least according to what is on my credit report. I want to settle it, I just want to make sure they can't pass any judgements on me in court if I haven't been officially notified by being served the papers. Oh and state is GA in case that has anything to do with the filing and serving laws. more

Resolved Question: Does Gov. Schwarzenegger even know what he believes in anymore?

I am referring to this article. http://www.sacbee.com/topstories/story/1923957.html This quote "..while he praised their economic contributions and said he is "happy" they have access to services." and this one "He said the cost of services to illegal immigrants, which has been estimated at $4 billion to $5 billion annually, is a "small percentage" of the deficit California faces." Doesn't his fiscal people tell him that illegals cost CA over 10 BILLION a year, when you account for health care, incarceration, and education of their anchor babies? http://www.fairus.org/site/PageNavigator/facts/state_data_CA You are looking at 20% of the budget right there. If robbing our state of 10 billion a year is an "economic contribution", then we live in a sad, backwards world doomed for bankruptcy. His political party is Republican, but he makes all the moves of a liberal. more

Resolved Question: Why does the media insist on supporting lies about the auto industry.?

The head line 780 under performing dealers that have cost Chrysler Corp. into bankruptcy is just an out and out lie. Those dealerships were privately owned and PAID the company for each and every car they ordered and on top of that paid them a franchise fee every year and pair them for service bulletins, training even if they had none and parts. Chrysler Corp. contribution for each of those dealerships ZERO DOLLARS.I do not understand why people post and have no idea or experience to draw from. Resolved Question: Do you think digital books are preferable to the old fashioned textbooks?

Californian school kids have been told to throw away their textbooks to help the state avoid bankruptcy. But they won’t need total recall — they’re going digital instead. The textbooks have been terminated by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the bodybuilding state governor who says they are “outdated” and too expensive. Schwarzenegger announced the ban on textbooks in a classroom in Sacramento, holding up four large text books and joking: “I can use these for the (bicep) curls.” He said that children would easily adapt and denied that they would be getting a raw deal. “Textbooks are outdated, in my opinion,” he said. “For so many years, we’ve been trying to teach the kids exactly the same way. “Our kids get their information from the internet, downloaded onto their iPods, and in Twitter feeds to their cell phones... Basically. Kids are feeling as comfortable with their electronic devices as I was with my pencils and crayons. So why are California’s school students still forced to lug around antiquated, heavy, expensive textbooks?” California is the first US state to embrace digital textbooks and the rise of the machines, which Schwarzenegger says could save hundreds of millions of dollars. State officials say the average textbook costs $75 to $100—far more than its digital equivalent. Last year California spent $350 million on textbooks and can no longer afford it. Authorities are making deep cuts to tackle the budget deficit. The state’s revenues have plummeted during the economic recession, forcing officials to consider drastic spending cuts to balance the state’s books, said Amanda Fulkerson, a spokeswoman for California’s State and Consumer Services Agency, which oversees the state’s contracting and purchases. “We have to look across the board for savings,” she said. “The state controller has been very honest with us in talking about the state running out of cash in two weeks.” He said that he would concentrate on getting better value for money for the state, reconsidering everyday purchases just as ordinary families were having to do during the recession. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/World/California-schools-scrap-textbooks/articleshow/4638376.cms more

Resolved Question: Sorry, just posting something so I can copy and paste it....?

Exit Essay: Important Jobs in the Future : Senior Citizen Health and Education Assisstant It seems as though everytime you turn on the news, the words bad economy, bankruptcy, and millions of jobs lost seem to show up at least once. It’s probably safe to say that Detroit has been hit the hardest in these tough times. It's economy relied on The Big Three auto companies (GM, Chrysler, and Ford) which are all doing poorly (GM recently filed for bankruptcy). What we need are new jobs, or ‘jobs of the future’. Hopefully, these jobs will release our state and country from the death grip of the recession. The real question is, where can we find these jobs? The Bureau of Labor Statistics 2008-2009 edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook has a few ideas about what tomorrow’s jobs may be. The handbook says that population is the most important factor in finding new jobs. According to a graph displayed on the website, the population of senior citizens (or people ages 55-64) will increase by 30 % by 2016. The website also shows that educational and health services will be the most important jobs by 2016. Therefore, I believe that a Senior Citizen Health and Education Assisstant will be very important in the future. A Senior Citizen Health and Education Assisstant (or SCHEA) would work in a hospital, assissted living, or retirement home. They would visit their patients (seniors) regularly, making sure that their diet is a healthy one, and that they are getting enough exercise. SCHEAs would also help older people stay educated, by reteaching them things like math and writing, and improving their social skills. SCHEAs could also come to a senior citizens’ home. SCHEAs should have interest and skill in counseling, teaching, and health. Four years of undergraduate college would be recommended, and two years of medical school and a teacher’s degree are also encouraged. SCHEAs should be very well-educated and patient people. I believe that a Senior Citizen Health and Education Assisstant should make a salary of around $100,000. I think this because they have to go to many years of college, and have lots of experience. A Senior Citizen HealthOkay, I had to have it @ school, and our school won't allow us to use our e-mails. more

Resolved Question: Why do Democrats whine that Bush spent money on GM when factually it was Pelosi and Bwaney Fwanks?

Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. rose 5.5 percent in New York trading after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged Congress to pass an industry bailout, embracing the premise that GM is too big to be allowed to fail. In backing an emergency aid plan, Pelosi rejected calls to let the largest U.S. automaker collapse, saying she wanted to stop the loss of millions of jobs. Today, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank proposed tapping $25 billion from the $700 billion in bank-rescue funding. ``Trying to reorganize the auto industry in bankruptcy would be as close to reorganizing the whole U.S. economy as you could get,'' said Alan Gover, a bankruptcy lawyer with White & Case LLP in New York. ``The vast supply chain involves thousands of businesses, millions of existing jobs and just as many retirees, as well as whole communities and states.'' http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601110&sid=a8oQkqyRcU6Y more

Resolved Question: White House Evacuated joke? (star if you like it)?

White House north lawn evacuated over suspicious package ahead of Obama GM speech After the president's short speech, reporters have been forced to remain in the Grand Foyer for the last 10 minutes. No word on when we might be allowed to leave. Your correspondent took the time to do a brief radio interview. Earlier, the Secret Service forced reporters off the White Hosue driveway and into the press room over an suspicious package found near the White House fence. Some reporters were forced to go through another entrance into the building, while our trip into the Grand Foyer for the president's speech on General Motors Corp.'s bankruptcy filing was delayed by 15 minutes. Not clear what it is, but this typically happens over suspcious packages. The Secret Service also cleared pedestrians off the sidewalk in front of White House. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The suspcious package was later found to be a balanced checkbook. Something no one in the Obama White House had ever seen or heard of. more

Resolved Question: Is this where we are going?

RICHARD MILLER: First GM, Next America By Richard Miller Author, “In Word and Deeds: Battle Speeches In History” It was said once that what was good for General Motors was good for America. I would update that aphorism: what is happening to General Motors is happening to America. Some of this is a bitter necessity–but much of it will be very bad, brought on by the voting public’s collective refusal to face the consequences of our nation’s (and our own) increasingly reckless financial behavior over the past three decades. ————— The truth is that the president is just doing with GM what we, the people elected him to do: manage America’s decline and do it gently, painlessly, without seeming to abandon the old tropes of American Greatness. ————— First, about that which is necessary. The key word here is “deleveraging.” GM, like many other corporations, homeowners, and credit card borrowers simply incurred too much debt. Most of GM’s debt was self-inflicted–ordinary borrowing. But much of the most damaging debt was simply conspiratorial. Unions and management had few incentives to control the former’s spiraling wages, benefits and pensions while the latter had to avoid strikes and keep the machine running in order to earn its rich salaries and bonuses. As for shareholders and bondholders, as long as GM played its own Ponzi game of being current on debt service, and as long as the stock rose in the general equity mania of the last generation, few asked many questions. Meanwhile, the only market that really counted — the domestic auto market — had been shrinking steadily for GM since the early 1970s. And the government (us, of course) was fond of its CAFEs, EPAs, OSHAs and other regulatory burdens that it imposed on the company. It all added up to what you now see unfolding before your eyes. And what is very bad about GM’s situation? The Obama administration, in the name of the public good but in the fact of political payoff, has paid billions and pledged upwards of $50 billion dollars to a company that has failed to raise one dime of private capital. And all this done without querying GM exactly what it will do differently to compete with Mercedes, Toyota or even Ford. Do you know what will be different? Please comment if you do because despite studying this GM for years, I don’t have a clue. Now here’s the surprise: I don’t blame Obama one bit. Sure, he broke his campaign pledge against Washington “politics as usual” by giving us Chicago “politics as usual.” In this case Alderman Obama delivered to his ward bosses at the UAW. But the truth is that the president is just doing with GM what we, the people elected him to do: manage American decline and do it gently, painlessly, without seeming to abandon the old tropes of American Greatness. We, the public, wanted to avoid the pain that the logic of our (former) economic and social system would have required of GM: file a non-government subsidized bankruptcy petition, and hope that the washed through assets would actually be acquired by some guy with a better idea on how to build cars. “Too big to fail,” we said in our collective arrogance. Too much pain. Too many suppliers forced out of business, too many workers unemployed, too many pensioners struggling to survive on reduced benefits. All probably true, and all part of the economic logic that built this country. Brutal, yes, but when you see the pain that the Indians and Chinese are willing to bear in order to supplant us as world leaders, you may remember that it’s a price our ancestors bore when America was ascendant. The truth is that as a nation, we’re no longer “up to it,” the “it” being the costs associated with world leadership. We, GM and America have entered our dotage. Obama isn’t the problem, he’s just a symptom. (And to demonstrate how non-partisan this is, remember that it was Republican Bush ‘43 and his trusty sidekick “Help U.S.” Hank Paulson who argued for Detroit’s first $25 billion as well as $700 billion in TARP funds. It was at that very moment that Old America was declared dead and gone by its elites. All Obama has done is turn up the volume on the same song.) As a lifelong Republican, I’d love to bash the loyal opposition. But not this time. As a collective group we elected Obama to stop the pain. By making General Motors in effect a new department of the federal government, Obama, by deferring the pain to the Chinese government’s willingness to buy our bonds, has only done what we asked him to do. Managing America’s decline–it’s only a secret inside this country. more

Resolved Question: Question about GM bankruptcy and warranty?

It's being reported that GM is going to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy next week. My wife bought a new 1500HD Silverado in 2007 and she also bought the 4 year extended factory warranty which is underwritten by the GMAC insurance group. Is there a bankruptcy legal eagle here who knows if GM will still be required to honor it's extended factory warranty obligations after bankruptcy? And what about future recalls? Will GM still be obligated to honor safety and mechanical defect recalls issued by the NHTSA? I am a retired Chevrolet dealership mechanic but I don't have a clue about what might happen in this bankruptcy. I'm a little worried about this because I have a friend who was turned away Wednesday by the Chysler dealership he uses when he took his 08 Dodge Durango in to have the electric latch release on the rear gate repaired and the service manager told him they are not doing any warranty repairs at that dealership until after the terms of the Chrysler bankruptcy is finalized. more

Resolved Question: Are illegals receiving better health care that veterans?

Illegal immigrants Get Better Health Care Then US Vets! Illegal immigrants depressed wages in Arizona to the tune of $1.4 billion in 2006 and dipped lower-skilled legal workers’ pay by 4.7 percent. That is according to a study by a Harvard University economist commissioned by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. The MCAO had the study done as part of its defense of the state’s new employer sanctions law. Business and Hispanic groups have challenged that law questioning its validity and arguing it would hurt the state’s economy. The study by Harvard economist George Borjas said hiring illegal immigrants depresses wages because they work for lower pay and sometimes are paid under the table. The study said illegal immigrants primarily impact wages and jobs held by legal workers with lower education levels. Borjas said that illegals make up 10 percent of all state workers and decrease all wages by 1.5 percent. Before our last election for change: As the left proclaims that there will be a massive Latino voter turnout in 2008, more and more cities across the nation are claiming that they can’t stop voter fraud among illegal aliens. Study: Illegals depress wages by $1.4 billion in Arizona- Source=Phoenix Business Journal . They cost the state about $1.4 billion in services, this is only Arizona. Arizona consistently has one of the nation’s highest rates of fatal hit-and-run crashes. And some statistical evidence suggests the state’s large number of illegal immigrants is one reason. But to many traffic safety experts and insurance industry officials, there is at least circumstantial evidence that people illegally in the country contribute to the hit-and-run problem. The seven states with the highest rates of fatal hit-and-run crashes are also the seven states that have the most illegal immigrants, according to two think tanks. Both the Pew Hispanic Center and Center for Immigration Studies rank Arizona fifth and put its illegal immigrant population at about 500,000, or 9 percent of all state residents. Arizona led the nation in another category that may be tied to illegal immigration: one in 12 drivers in fatal accidents had no license at all. New Mexico and Texas, two other border states, ranked second and third in that measure. Arizona’s high rates of unlicensed drivers and hit-and-run crashes are “joined at the hip,” said Dave Willis, a senior research scientist at the Texas Transportation Institute who has studied traffic safety issues for 30 years. Gustavo Soto, a supervisory agent with the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector, said smugglers of illegal immigrants or illegal drugs often are involved in fatal hit-and-runs in this part of the state. “They’re driving reckless, and they’re driving in shoddy vehicles,” Soto said. Ahr said smugglers and illegal immigrants often leave the scene of a wreck to avoid being deported. Many of the vehicles used to transport illegal immigrants are stolen or rented, he added. If the government can turn its back on health care for military veterans, as it announced it would last week, then cutting off illegal aliens shouldn’t be too tough. “All veterans and their families are painfully aware of the uphill struggle to obtain medical services at Veteran’s Affairs hospitals and clinics. We have to provide a ream of personal, financial, and military documentation just to get “in” the system. Once the information is validated then we are informed what our “share” of the medical expenses will be. If we submit the information in March, and we lose our job in April, we have to wait a full year for the VA to reassess our co-payment. With past funding cuts it is not unusual for a veteran to have to travel across several counties to reach a VA medical center. Meanwhile, the illegal simply presents himself to the nearest hospital for a complete smorgasbord of free medical services. This “squatter” enjoys all of the freedoms that the veteran has fought for, with none of the pain, suffering, or expenses associated with them… The Florida Hospital Association surveyed 28 hospitals and found that health care for illegal aliens totaled at least $40 million in 2002! So you can see this problem is nation wide! Illegal immigrants may not know much about medical care. But one thing they do know: they get a better deal in the U.S. than they do in Mexico. Illegal aliens have cost billions of taxpayer-funded dollars for medical services. Dozens of hospitals in Texas, New Mexico Arizona, and California, have been forced to close or face bankruptcy because of federally-mandated programs requiring free emergency room services to illegal aliens. Taxpayers pay half-a-billion dollars per year incarcerating illegal alien criminals. Immigration is a net drain on the economy; corporate interests reap the benefits of cheap labor, while taxpayers pay the infrastructural cost. Research shows “the net annual cost of immigration has been estimated at between“the net annual cost of immigration has been estimated at between $67 and $87 billion a year. The National Academy of Sciences found that the net fiscal drain on American taxpayers is between $166 and $226 a year per native household. Even studies claiming some modest overall gain for the economy from immigration ($1 to $10 billion a year) have found that it is outweighed by the fiscal cost ($15 to $20 billion a year) to native taxpayers.” 80% of cocaine and 50% of heroin in the U.S. is smuggled across the border by Mexican nationals. Drug cartels spend a half-billion dollars per year bribing Mexico’s corrupt generals and police officials, and armed confrontations between the Mexican army and U.S. Border Patrol agents are a real threat. Resolved Question: Computer Repair Fees?

I'm scrambling to make a little extra cash. Newly divorced, child support payments, bankruptcy, loss of my home, and now...a pay cut has really made my financial situation quite dire. I've been fixing computers for friends for years. Macs, PC's, desktop repair and building, laptop repair, virus removal..etc... I was charging about 40.00/hour to do basic home networking and was wondering if anyone out there had advice regarding hourly fees or just setting up a computer repair business on the side. I'd like to get some ideas about how others are structuring their business, fees, what services are being offered..etc.. I've found that some people get a bit frustrated when I spend several hours working on a repair only to tell them that the repair is taking longer than expected...How do you deal with this? more

Resolved Question: Do I have to pay off the rest of my Chrysler auto loan after their bankruptcy?

I started financing a hyndai accent through chrysler financial in October 2008. I have paid on this loan every month since we started financing this vehicle. After Chrysler announced that they were filing bankruptcy we are still receiving our statements through Chrysler. Do I still have to pay this bill? If I do, what makes me entitled to pay this because in a small business bankruptcy, a client that received services doesn't necessarily have to pay the small business filing the bankruptcy (example used, a family member's business filed bankruptcy and was forced to close the doors). Why would another creditor or business want to take debt for the probable risk of losing more money, especially in this economy. Is there a way to get out of paying this possible debt or have the loan amount and payments lowered? Are there any perks in this situation? more

Resolved Question: Lucent Technologies Questions?

Questions: 2. Evaluate the asset, debt, and equity structure of Lucent Technologies, as well as trends and changes found on the common-size balance sheet. 3. What concerns would investors and creditors have based on only this information? 4. What additional financial and nonfinancial information would investors and creditors need to make investing and lending decisions for Lucent Technologies? Reading: Executive Summary We design and deliver the systems, software and services that drive next-generation communications networks. Backed by Bell Labs research and development, we use our strengths in mobility, optical, access, data and voice networking technologies, as well as services, to create new revenue-generating opportunities for our customers, while enabling them to quickly deploy and better manage their networks. Our customer base includes communications service providers, governments and enterprises worldwide. We have three segments organized around the products and services we sell. The reportable segments are Integrated Network Solutions (“INS”), Mobility Solutions (“Mobility”) and Lucent Worldwide Services (“Services”). INS provides a broad range of software and wireline equipment related to voice networking (primarily consisting of switching products, which we sometimes refer to as convergence solutions, and voice messaging products), data and network management (primarily consisting of access and related data networking equipment and operating support software) and optical networking. Mobility provides software and wireless equipment to support radio access and core networks. Services provides deployment, maintenance, professional and managed services in support of both our product offerings as well as multi-vendor networks. Beginning in fiscal 2001, the global telecommunications market deteriorated, resulting from a decrease in the competitive local exchange carrier market and a significant reduction in capital spending by established service providers. This trend intensified during fiscal 2002 and continued into fiscal 2003. Reasons for the market deterioration included general economic slowdown, network overcapacity, customer bankruptcies, network build-out delays and limited availability of capital. We believe that the market for telecommunications equipment has stabilized and is starting to grow in certain areas. The growing demands of enterprises and consumers for additional services tailored to their needs is creating the need for a new convergence of networks, technologies and applications. Resolved Question: How bad of an idea is filing Chapter 13 bankruptcy?

I'm in a rather terrible situation. Due to a house fire, my parents asked me to take out a credit card in my name to help replace some of the furniture, damaged items, etc. because the insurance company wanted receipts for everything before they would issue a payment. I got an American Express card, charged about 16,000 dollars worth of various items with the understanding that when my parents received the payment they would pay off the card. Unfortunately, they ended up having to give the money to a public adjuster, and neglected to tell me they had not in fact paid off the card. That was 3 years ago. Just this week, my mother called me and was pretty much like, "Oh, sorry! Forgot to tell you. Well, you should deal with that." So, I now have 18,000 dollars worth of long defaulted on credit card bills, and no possible way to pay them off. I am a student with a part time job, so I have very little disposable income. Even if I contacted a debt settlement service, the payments I would be able to make would take me close to a decade. Chapter 13 would only require me to pay for 3 years. I know bankruptcy is terrible for your credit, but Chapter 13 is slightly less so because a partial payment plan is set up with the CC company. I'm 22, so it would be off of my credit report before I turn 30, when I'd probably want to buy a house. Anyway, thoughts? more

Resolved Question: With Chrysler shutting down dealerships and dealers needing to sell inventory, what will discount to MSRP be?

I'm curious to know if Chrysler dealers will be willing to take LESS than the MSRP or even below their cost in order to liquidate inventory of Chrysler cars. If so, what would be a reasonable discount to expect? This is a liquidation sale, yes? Also, after one purchases a new Chrysler car, who will service it? Will there be any service plans to go with the car and if so, who will honor it? The next nearest Chrysler dealer that did not get shut down? Will parts for Chrysler cars still be available in the future? My sense is that while Chrysler has declared bankruptcy, they may re-emerge after a plan of reorganization having renegotiated key contracts. Or is this a total melt-down / sale of all assets? more

Resolved Question: Is this the change we can believe in?

The following letter appeared in 'The American Thinker' on May 19, 2009 Letter from a Dodge dealer letter to the editor My name is George C. Joseph. I am the sole owner of Sunshine Dodge-Isuzu, a family owned and operated business in Melbourne, Florida. My family bought and paid for this automobile franchise 35 years ago in 1974. I am the second generation to manage this business. We currently employ 50+ people and before the economic slowdown we employed over 70 local people. We are active in the community and the local chamber of commerce. We deal with several dozen local vendors on a day to day basis and many more during a month. All depend on our business for part of their livelihood. We are financially strong with great respect in the market place and community. We have strong local presence and stability. I work every day the store is open, nine to ten hours a day. I know most of our customers and all our employees. Sunshine Dodge is my life. On Thursday, May 14, 2009 I was notified that my Dodge franchise, that we purchased, will be taken away from my family on June 9, 2009 without compensation and given to another dealer at no cost to them. My new vehicle inventory consists of 125 vehicles with a financed balance of 3 million dollars. This inventory becomes impossible to sell with no factory incentives beyond June 9, 2009. Without the Dodge franchise we can no longer sell a new Dodge as "new," nor will we be able to do any warranty service work. Additionally, my Dodge parts inventory, (approximately $300,000.) is virtually worthless without the ability to perform warranty service. There is no offer from Chrysler to buy back the vehicles or parts inventory. Our facility was recently totally renovated at Chrysler's insistence, incurring a multi-million dollar debt in the form of a mortgage at Sun Trust Bank. HOW IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CAN THIS HAPPEN? THIS IS A PRIVATE BUSINESS NOT A GOVERNMENT ENTITY This is beyond imagination! My business is being stolen from me through NO FAULT OF OUR OWN. We did NOTHING wrong. This atrocity will most likely force my family into bankruptcy. This will also cause our 50+ employees to be unemployed. How will they provide for their families? This is a total economic disaster. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN IN A FREE MARKET ECONOMY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA? I beseech your help, and look forward to your reply. Thank you. Sincerely, George C. Joseph President & Owner Sunshine Dodge-IsuzuThis man's question is a good one. How CAN this happen in AMERICA?Fascism is inherently leftist, so when liberal is used in reference to the left, it is NOT an oxymoron. Go read "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg. Then come back to class. If you don't realize that fascism is left wing, you are not educated enough to have a valid opinion. Mussolini was the DARLING of the American left in the 1930's. Resolved Question: Why would GM or Chrysler want to have less dealers to sell their product?

GM & Chrysler are in bankruptcy because they can't sell enough cars to make a profit. GM & Chrysler does not sell us their cars. The independent dealer sells their product. These dealers are the automakers ONLY customer; without them they cannot sell cars. How does shutting them out solve the automakers problem. The dealer is the only source of income for the automakers not a liability. Add in the lost parts sales and warranty service the dealer provides and closing dealers makes as much sense as closing grocery stores to help improve Kraft Food's bottom line. more

Resolved Question: If you have a family member that worked at one of these eliminated dealerships, will you ever buy a Chrysler?

NEW YORK – Chrysler LLC wants to eliminate roughly a quarter of its 3,200 U.S. dealerships by early next month, saying in a bankruptcy court filing Thursday that the network is antiquated and has too many stores competing with each other. The company, in a motion filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York, said it wants to shed 789 dealerships by June 9. Many of the dealers' sales are too low, the automaker said, with just over 50 percent of dealers accounting for about 90 percent of the company's U.S. sales. Dealers were told Thursday morning through United Parcel Service letters if they would remain or be eliminated. The cuts are likely to devastate cities and towns across the country as thousands of jobs are lost and taxes are not paid. Chrysler Vice Chairman Jim Press called the cuts difficult but necessary. He said the list of dealers is final and there will be no appeal process. more

Resolved Question: My privite student loan was discharged. Now what?

I am in an interesting situation. I lost my job and I am unemployed. I had used all forbearances and deferrals and none were available to me. So I defaulted on my private student loan. The loan was 7 years old and I have been either in forbearance or have been servicing for this period.. I filed for bankruptcy recently and my lawyer told me that I should try and include the loan in the petition. I did include it and my petition was approved 3 weeks ago. I have my discharge now. However in my credit report I am still seeing the loan. All other loans are gone. Does any have any idea what does this mean? What can the lender do ? more
